My dogs are learning more than my child. August 16, 2010 Glen P. Smith I thought this would be great for my toddler. The problem is that the sounds go off too easily instead of sounding only when the correct piece is placed. And, it won't turn off, so every time one of my dogs walks by the puzzle it makes a sound.
Nice Educational Alphabet Puzzle April 19, 2010 I. Rana (Boston, MA) It's really a nice educational puzzle for kids but has an issue mentioned by others also that it will sound even if we try to put wrong alphabets or move our hands over other missing alphabets.
Always keep other alphabets in place to get correct sound while placing any specific alphabet.
Even it will play of its own if all alphabets are not placed properly (scary during night :)).
overall good product.
Exactly what we were looking for April 6, 2010 E. Workman (Southern CA) I was worried about buying this puzzle after reading other reviews, but we are very happy with the purchase. True, the puzzle is not a PERFECT tool for learning the alphabet, but it is still a good way to become familiar with the letters. Most of the concerns shared in other reviews are based on the fact that the puzzle spaces are light sensitive, but we really didn't find this to be a problem. For example, if a piece is missing, every time we turn the light on or off, the puzzle announces "G is for Guitar" (or whatever piece is missing). That was easily fixable, though, by covering the puzzle so that the light wouldn't hit it (until we found the missing piece). Another concern shared in other reviews is that the spaces are not letter specific. For example, if you try putting the G in the space for the A, the piece will not fit, but the puzzle still announces "A is for Apple" since the light sensor is covered. So, this may cause some confusion. However, I just work with my daughter while she does the puzzle. If she tries to put the G in the space for the A, the puzzle says "A is for Apple". I tell her, "Oh, it looks like that piece doesn't fit there, and the puzzle is telling us we're looking for the A." Overall, this is a fun learning tool & works just fine.
Not what I had hoped February 22, 2010 BeachMe (Pawleys Island, SC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This puzzle has a picture on the board that signifies each letter. When a letter is placed in its proper spot it says, "A is for apple" type of thing. I wish it just said A. No need to convolute what should be a just simple lesson. My children know what the picture is, they just need to learn their letters. I think they get bored and bothered by the unnecessary talk this puzzle makes. Otherwise this puzzle is good quality, which is why I did not give it a bad rating.
Taking mine back - Don't bother with this one! January 24, 2010 SooJR The letters easily mark up or rub off. Only a sticker coating. The little picture that is revealed "P is for Pretzel" etc is hard to make out what it is. There is no on or off switch and if you're missing a letter piece the puzzel will sound off on it's own when you turn the light off/on or place another object on top of it.
There are so many other ABC learning toys out there. This is one you can skip!
