Product Description The nicest portable chess board you've ever played on! Wooden Birch board and Hornbeam wood chessmen are magnetic so they stay where they are put without worries of a bump or a jiggle to disrupt your game.

Pretty good August 9, 2010 James A. Ritscher (Arlington, MA USA) Generally I like this set. The dimensions are 10.5 x 10.5 inches, open. One piece had almost no magnatism. The carving on the knights is not as precise as on other sets. However, the pieces are easy to distinguish.
nice set August 9, 2010 David Crall (San Diego, CA) Good size, not too big, not too small. The alpha numeric helps follow newspaper chess puzzles. Pleasant workmanship.
Solid Product June 26, 2010 Mike -Positive: Looks and feels great. Very solid so far, and seems like it will last.
-Neutral: Magnets are just the right strength, for me. Weak enough to allow for easy movement, and strong enough to keep them in place through an average jostle. (1 rook has no magnetism)
-Negative: The spaces that hold the pieces while the set is closed are too big. Half of the pieces(mainly pawns and knights) bounce around as the set rotates. In order to keep them in place, I had to modify the interior myself.
Overall, it is a good product for the price and I am satisfied.
Nice looking but... June 21, 2010 Andrew4549 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you're looking for a nice looking travel fold-up chess set, this is a good buy. If it's important that the pieces be magnetized, this is a joke! Calling this a "magnetized" chess set almost amounts to false advertising. The pieces are very slightly magnetic, and if you very carefully tip the board they will remain in place, but one slight bump and they're gone. The manufacturer should be ashamed.
Great Value June 7, 2010 Mark (Philadelphia USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wooden set sells in NYC for $40. Need I say more. The magnets on some pieces are not weak but are inset to far into the base causing them to slid off the board, a white rook and knight in my case. The magnetic attraction of the pieces causes them to jumble while stored. Other than these two small complaints this is a great chess set for the money. I'm glad I bought it. I will use it often when studing games and positions. Nice European detail.
