Like the alphabet blocks in Grandma's attic, these wooden blocks feature carved letters, fancy scroll borders, and simple ink drawings. Individual blocks feature four sides with colored letters, one side with a number and one side with the image and spelling of the object below it, such as an owl or duck. Unlike Grandma's blocks, however, these are printed with nontoxic, colored ink. And to avoid destroying nonrenewable forests, they're made of basswood that's cut from industry-owned and managed land in Michigan. Toddlers and preschoolers can use the 27 blocks to make all kinds of imaginative structures and to become familiar with numbers and letters. I was so excited to receive these blocks (on behalf of our little one). They are so beautiful, and remind me of a similar set I had as a child. I only later discovered that they also sell the alphabet set with a little waggon that they sit in, I would have loved that! I guess I'll just have to order it separately - and probably another set of blocks as well.
The embossed sides are beautiful, and the painted sides are great as well. I don't think that I have anything bad to say about them. Buyers should beware though, that these are indeed wood blocks, and as such need a little bit different maintenance as your typical plastic toys (no throwing them in the dishwasher for a quick 'sterilization'), but if looked after, I'm sure they will last a long time!

Received these blocks today for my two year old son. WOW!! We love them. The size and color are perfect. The canvas bag is great so he can haul them around and entertain himself by just taking them in and out of the bag. He stacks and sorts them. Great product. Planning on buying morefor bitthday presents.

These are very nice blocks. No sharp edges. Just the right size not too small like most blocks. Love that they came with a bag & don't mind paying a little extra for it. The only thing that could make these better is if all of the sides were nicely carved in. Only two of the letters on each block is, the others are just stamped. We love them & bought the lowercase set also. We plan to use the blocks when our little one comes to spell out the age each week & take weekly pictures.
Lindenwood/Uncle Goose has great customer service if you loose a block, or one becomes damaged... the canvas bag we got had a small hole in the side & I called to buy a replacement ... they sent a new one, free of charge, no questions asked. Fabulous customer service!
The Best Blocks September 24, 2009

I ordered these blocks with the bag for my two year old daughter. She loves to play with these blocks and pulls them out everyday. She can learn her numbers, letters, colors and animals all at the same time. Not only is she having a ball with them but so is her five year old brother. He enjoys them as much as she does. I didn't know if she would enjoy the bag or the wagon but I believe the bag was the right choice because it's easier for her to tote them around. These blocks are non toxic which was the most important to me, durable, has great size and look great. It's plain to see by reading all of the reviews that these blocks are hands down some of the best out there and is worth every penny. I'm very pleased and will buy more as gifts for family and friends.
